TAPE V83 DISCS6 SPOTS · 6 WATCHABLE
Donated by Tim Nelson, Shorewood, IL
Disc A · Nov 4 2001
Second recorder; first disc of tape V8. Fox's broadcast of Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, Yankees at Diamondbacks, Bank One Ballpark, Sunday, November 4, 2001, as seen on WFLD Fox 32 Chicago (a set-top info banner reads 'FOX 32 … Sun, Nov 4 • 10:30PM'). Joe Buck and Tim McCarver; Kevin Kennedy and Jeanne Zelasko on the field.
From the bottom of the 3rd (0-0): Schilling vs. Clemens; Bautista's RBI double (1-0 Arizona) and the Jeter relay; Tino Martinez ties it in the 7th; Jesse McGuire's trumpet 'God Bless America'; Clemens out after 6 1/3 (10 K); Soriano's 8th-inning home run off Schilling (2-1 Yankees); Randy Johnson in relief; Rivera strikes out the side in the 8th; then the bottom of the 9th — Grace's single, Rivera's throwing error, Womack's game-tying double, Counsell hit by a pitch, and Luis Gonzalez's bloop single over a drawn-in infield to win the Series 3-2. Fox celebration and interviews (Counsell, Schilling, Joe Torre). The viewer then flips to Chicago's local 10 PM sports: ABC7 (Brad Palmer at Soldier Field) and NBC5 Sports Sunday (Mark Schanowski, Steve McMichael, R.W. McQuarters, Chris Boden, Dick Jauron) on the Bears' 27-21 overtime win over Cleveland that afternoon, before returning to Fox's postgame. The disc ends mid-postgame.
Every commercial break was paused out during recording. Only fragments survive: the tail of Nike's 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' (already in the library), two WFLD 'After the Game' news teases (O'Hare passenger with weapons), a Pepsi Griffey/Sosa spot missing its first seconds (already in the library), and split-second Speedpass, United Airlines, Tylenol and Fox '24' tails. Tracking is clean.
